Using Data Inferred From Other Species

Use

Sometimes there is not sufficient experimental support for a set of reactions in one species, simply because the experiments have not been done in the target species. The InferredFrom slot address this problem. If the experts (perhaps also the curator) knows that this reaction really occurs in the target species, the reaction or reactions can be constructed in the experimentally supported species and then the InferredFrom slot can be filled in for the reactions in the target species. In this case the experimental species becomes the support for the target species.

NYCCM08 Notes

  • See these examples:
  • How about chimeras?
    • See Lisa example for a case where different species were used in a single reaction to support a reaction in human.
    • What about transcription reactions based on data where an extract from one species was used to test human cDNAs and produce human proteins?
      • How human is the reaction?
      • Where the human proteins the target of the experiment? If so then this is likely a human reaction and will not have to be inferred.
      • If it is a true chimeric experiment, then inference will have to be made.
  • The discussion moved forward covering complexes and poor use of the inferredFrom slot.
